Peloponnese: Greece
⡇
A COUNTRY
THAT WILL
BEGUILE YOU
“The word theatre comes from the Greeks. It means seeing the place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life.” – Stella Adler
Stories float on the air in the Peloponnese, summoning up images of Hercules fighting the Nemean lion, Paris of Troy, Helen, and the Argonauts. If you’re a lover of history and legend, this experience is a must, a vacation simply overflowing with tradition, ancient monuments, charming villages, and stunning scenery. Peloponnese is one of our favorite Grecian destinations, thanks to the welcoming philoxenia (hospitality) vibe and some of the best food in the country.
Geographically, the island – separated from the rest of the country by the Gulf of Corinth – contradicts itself from top to bottom. Snowcapped mountains and fertile landscapes in the north give way to rocky formations that slide into the sandy beaches and azure sea of the south. Orange and lemon trees give way to green olive trees and their prized fruit. Acres of land is covered by grapes and the region’s vineyards have given rise to Greece’s appearance on the world’s wine scene. You’ll have many chances to partake during your stay!
Your hotel experience will run the gamut from seaside luxury resorts and small traditional cottages with homemade breakfasts each morning, to cliff-hanging estates and farmhouses with agricultural activities that give you a feel for everyday island life. If prompted even in the slightest, the residents you meet will be thrilled to narrate stories of their past and share their dreams for the future.
Those with a thirst for adventure may trek throughout the island, go river rafting and cycle through the countryside. Of course, there’s always the option to simply bliss out by the sparkling pool of your resort, drinking in the relaxed Peloponnese vibes.
Spend a day like a local on Spetses Island – a favorite of the Greeks – where naval battle reenactments commingle with horse-drawn carriage rides down narrow cobblestone streets past grand mansions.
History buffs may delve into the age of antiquity at monuments and sites that take one back to the Byzantine era – visit Mycenae, Ancient Olympia, Megalopolis, Nafplio, Mystras, Monemvasia and Pylos.
The complete Grecian package, the Peloponnese refreshes both body and soul. Allow us to arrange your journey to this most idyllic of isles.
